My first attempt
When my sister was undergoing chemotherapy for metastatic breast cancer in a city miles away from where I lived, I wanted to make something to show her that she would always be wrapped in our love as we were wrapped in her life....I decided to make a quilt to keep her warm during her 3 hour appointments at the treatment center. My first quilting attempt wasn't a total disaster, but there are obvious mistakes in it that I didn't notice until I had made a few more quilts. I gave it to Jane hoping that she would feel the threads that connected it and her to me whenever she used it.
I am sad to say that my sister passed away about 6 months after I gave her that quilt. I jokingly say now that Jane left me a few things, a lot of memories, and an addiction....I am now hooked on quilting. In the last two years since making that first quilt, I have made four more quilts, giving them all away. I think sharing them is as important to me as making them. I do have a quilt planned that I will keep, but I have at least three designed in my head that I have to make....and give away...before I make the one for us.
