Art quilt

This framed piece was made to take to work so that I could look at it and dream of the fabric I could buy with my wages. LOL! It fits in a 5-7 inch frame and was a lot of fun to make. I experimented with felting on yarn and did a small amount of beading on the free-form flower.

Art Quilt

This quilt started as a March challenge in a guild I used to belong to. We were to come up with a modern wallhanging with a focus on green. I don't know if this is "modern," but I suppose it's different. The grass was made by stitching pieces of yarn layered between water soluble. The quilt looks crooked but that's because of how it was hanging in a quilt show. it was a lot of fun to make!

Quilt retreat project

I got invited to join a fantastic group of women for a retreat weekend. As most of them were long time and VERY accomplished quilters, I was more than a bit intimidated and overwhelmed by the invitation. After the initial few minutes at our hotel, I knew that I had found a home with the "Quilting Cougars". They were warm, fun, funny, mentoring....I learned a lot that weekend as they were more than willing to share with a newbie. I put this strip quilt together from start to finish that weekend. It now lives on the bed in my son's room.

Friendship garden

When my long-time coworker and friend was planning her retirement, she joked that she wanted a quilt as a retirement gift. As she was planning retirement for a year or so in the future, I thought I would have plenty of time to make something for her, so I began collecting ideas for colors and patterns without actually starting anything. Then in September last year, she decided to retire early in mid-November! Panic set in, I purchased fabrics that weekend, and started my first ever paper-piecing project ( foolish girl!). I didn't get her quilt finished for her retirement party, but I did at least have the top done to show her a picture, and the final quilt was delivered shortly after the New Year.

Tissue box

As my second quilt project, I chose a very simple pattern made of pre-cut strips. My local quilt shop owner assured me that the colors would all come together when the project was finished, but I admit I had my reservations about so many colors and patterns in one piece. Fortunately, she was right, and my reluctance to blend many different fabrics in the same quilt is diminishing....not entirely gone, but it is getting easier for me to picture the finished project in my mind's eye.
