I I changed it up a little...different fabric, changed the shapes slightly & added a border. I'm going to gift it to one of my husband's co-workers who is about to be a first time Grandma. Hope she likes it! By Michelle4332 58 LIKES | 4653 VIEWS Elephant Walk This quilt was done at a quilting friend retreat. One lady, who had been quilting longer than the rest of us, though she was quite a few years our junior, provided the general pattern and we each put our own tweaks to it. My tweak was to have elephants marching across the strips of fabric. When I mis-cut the backing, a large (unplanned) piece from the front was used to mend the gap. It was this fortuitous error which provided the perfect backdrop for the appliqued monogram that followed. Talk about lemonade from lemons! Now if this ol' elephant can just remember that trick should it be needed again. By akaJaneAce 6 LIKES | 1116 VIEWS 2 Much Fun! When my first grand turned two, I made this Peek-a-Boo quilt for him. It was my first time to use chain piecing. Also, I used a large font design to trace onto some Heatbond Lite for the lettering applique. I even employed my low-end embroidery machine for a label. Fun how much one learns with each new project! By akaJaneAce 5 LIKES | 1026 VIEWS Flip-able Table Runner Saw this on Jenny's tutorial, and loved the use of the friendship braid. My stash had some fabric colors along the lines of what she had used, and that took care of side one. The backing, however, posed a problem, until I decided to make the runner's reverse side Christmas themed and use a pillowcase turning (no binding) for it. Lining up the two sides for quilting was a real pain. REAL, REAL, REAL pain, but I like the end result...even though some of the stitches are a bit off. There are so many versions of this block. I came up with this. By Gaga2six 13 LIKES | 1136 VIEWS Let's Go Dutch I was browsing the internet for quilts and came across an antique version of this. I added sashing (looks like eyelet?) and made up the border. I did a little applique on the back...it's annoying to me that quilters are starting to do this...when I'm done with a quilt, I don't want to make a pretty back for it! By Gaga2six 15 LIKES | 1517 VIEWS Vintage State Flowers A friend recommended me as someone who could finish a vintage quilt top with 48 state flowers blocks. My client showed me the top that she found among things left behind for her in an estate. She found several quilts and quilt tops. This one by far was the prettiest and in perfect shape. It was hand embroidered and hand pieced, very accurately sashed and bordered. I was a bit intimidated to quilt it, but chose my shabby chic roses and leaves for the sashing and borders and small stippling for surrounding the embroidered flowers. It was so pretty and feminine, I thought it begged for a scalloped border. My LQS sales lady suggested plain white binding, as that was usually used in vintage quilts. It was so pretty, I didn't want to give it back! By JeanJean71 12 LIKES | 1134 VIEWS Fat Friday I bought a kit that used fat quarters called Fat Friday. It uses 12, 16, 20, 30 fatquarters, depending on how big you want the quilt to be. Each block ends up 16" square. I found this to be a VERY EASY pattern to use for a quick and colorful quilt. The pattern suggests piling the fat quarters in a stack and cutting many at a time. I stacked 4 of them to make this 12 block quilt. All fabrics pulled from my stash to go with 5 that came together in a fat quarter bundle. Quilted with my favorite swirls. My friend loved it, it has a soft flannel backing, so I gave it to her! By JeanJean71 4 LIKES | 902 VIEWS Charm Square Crosses This quilt was designed and sewn by my daughter as her first quilt project. She used 4 charm packs I had ordered for her to do a different pattern with, but instead she designed this pattern. She let me quilt it in any style I wished and gave me permission to experiment. I had quilting rulers for my longarm, but hadn't tried to use them. This circle quilting seemed perfect for this style quilt. We are both happy with the results!
